From the darkest time in my life, came my brightest idea. I am going to hunt down every bit of science I was ever curious about and share the adventure with you.

My story starts in 8th grade after moving to a new school in a different state.  Because of the differences in the school systems, I was forced to take extra science classes.  Reluctantly I chose a geology class that I knew I would hate.  The teacher of the class had such an intense passion for the subject, that he made geology fun and challenging.  That geology class was incredible, because of that class and an inspiring teacher I grew to really love science over the rest of my time in school.

After graduating high school, I went to work for an outdoor theater.  This job introduced me to the world of special effects and pyrotechnics which, if you aren't aware, is nothing but science and math.  Eventually I moved on from the theater and started working on special effects teams for films.  During that time, I was able to learn a lot and travel all over the United States. I also had the opportunity to go to college for an electrical engineering degree.

Traveling was another passion I discovered during my career. I enjoyed exploring the different locations that working for FX in films would send me. When I met my wife, one of the things that struck me about her was her sense of adventure.  Her passion for exploring new places and love of the outdoors was very infectious and it left an indelible mark on me.  Together we went on many adventures like back packing Yellowstone National Park and getting our scuba certifications in Roatan, Honduras.  Life was perfect!

As the cliché goes, all good things must come to an end; things didn't work out between my wife and I.  While grieving and healing, I came to the realization that life is short and you only get one. There are too many places to explore and there is too much to learn in the world to let the loss define me.   This new outlook on life, along with the help of some amazing and brilliant friends, lead to the creation of my science travel blog: The Scientific Traveler.

   Let's explore science!
